Modern Warfare 2 – Review

Modern Warfare 2 was 2009’s most anticipated game. Some would say it was the most anticipated game of the decade. Players that had played the first Modern Warfare, Call of Duty 4, were expecting Modern Warfare 2 to be a revolutionary game, better than its predecessor.
When the game was released on the 10th of November, 2009, game stores all around the world were crowded with customers for the new Modern Warfare.
The new Modern Warfare 2 game then became the highest grossing launch in entertainment history, pulling in $310 million in the US and UK alone. It smashed the records.

Modern Warfare 2 offers an exciting campaign with an intriguing plot with twists and turns on the way, while the multiplayer online mode of the game rises and shines like no other game has done before. The campaign is played from the perspective of many different soldiers in varied situations. Whether it’s the Navy SEALs, or the US Rangers, the flow of the game takes you out of this world. Enemies will take cover, throw grenades, chuck flashbangs, and obviously shoot, acting like a real person, making the game’s AI quite realistic.

The game levels are beautifully built, with immense detail. It’s as if the places you go to in Modern Warfare 2 are real. Buildings and materials look believable, while the plants move in the wind, and the clouds are visible in the sky. The game environment is very destructible compared to Call of Duty 4. You can blow up photocopier machines, make drinks come out of vending machines, and much more. You can spill water, you can shoot and destroy plants. You can also make cars explode. Oh, and don’t forget the chickens! (bwuk >:D)

There is a wide array of weaponary, ranging from the ubuquitous AK47 (this time with an M4-style stock and rails), to the SCAR-H and then to the Cheytac Intervention M200, the sniper rifle featured in the movie Shooter. You can slap on an extraordinary amount of attachments (not at the same time sadly : \), such as the Thermal Scope so you can see through smoke and have the enemies appear white on the screen, the improved ACOG scope, this time with a LOT less sway, and also the Masterkey shotgun attachment – have a shotgun mounted to your rifle! Grips, red dot sights and silencers are back too, but this time, you can have silencers on sniper rifles, machine guns, and also shotguns.

The gameplay is very entertaining and will keep you glued to your seats for hours of fun, blasting away the noobs that try to attack you. In multiplayer, the period of awesomness will be significantly longer, as there are hundreds of challenges, guns, and attachments to unlock. Customizable killstreaks such as the fearsome AC-130 gunship and the Predator UAV drone are selectable and usable, or, if you’d like less of an offensive roll, you could go with an Emergency Airdrop and the EMP.

Aside from the campaign and the multiplayer game modes, Infinity Ward unveiled a new game mode with short missions: Spec Ops. If you’ve finished the campaign but the players in multiplayer are really annoying you, you can keep playing Modern Warfare 2 by grabbing a friend and doing missions in Spec Ops.

Overall, Modern Warfare 2 is a truely amazing game with only a handful of letdowns and glitches. PC gamers will probably be annoyed by the fact that there are no dedicated servers for the game, meaning that they have to find a random game each time they want to play, with hosts all around the world.

That doesn’t ruin the experience though. Modern Warfare 2 is one of the top games of the decade (so far).

My Opinion
9.5/10 Rating.

WTF 9.5/10? I give it a 12 :D THe only problem is the dedicated servers thing like you said. Really annoying when you lag and teleport everywhere.

    • 9.5 because of the glitches, the stupid host change system, and also the crappy hosts. Also, the care package marker sprint speed and Bling 1887’s range. They made a good game with a few messed up things IMO. M93 Raffica is also overpowered, same damage multipliers as an M16A4.

      • Yeh but in CoD 4 when the host leaves or disconnects the game ends.

        Mike

      • But the host change system still sucks – if the host turns off their xbox/ps3 or alt+f4’d mw2 on pc because they suck, it says “Lost Connection to Host”. -.-

  4. I swear i’ve read this on another website. I would give this game a 7.5/10. overall fun. gets boring faster than halo:ODST, glitches, PC version Online sux, still too easy, has that stupid aim help, the Campaign was more like camp-ing, too much campers, lame Perks, only campaign level I enjoyed was No Russian, and that the Multiplayer maps… not that good. I liked Call of Duty 4 better. Felt better, less campers, and more ownage. Also Soap doesn’t have that stupid Mohawk and Price doesn’t look like he has been on drugs for the past 10 years.

    • I -ASSURE- you that THIS is -MY- work. If this has been published on another website, it has been stolen and therefore committing copyright infringement.

    • If you remember this website that it was seen on, then please inform me of the website. I would very much appreciate that.
